Important to know

The Nomadbase Safari is not a five-star lodge holiday or zoo, but an adventure safari with no guarantee to see all animals as nature and wildlife are unpredictable. However, we will do our best to make sure you get the most amazing experience possible. As the places we visit are remote, please bear in mind that amenities might not always be up to European standards (not to worry though, we chose some nice places to stay). As we rely on third parties and things can occasionally change, there might be a possibility that we will have to change the route and/or need to make adjustments.

You should book as soon as possible as spots are very limited.

Do I need to be a member of NomadBase to join?

Because spots are very limited, early bird tickets will only be available for NomadBase Live Africa participants. Get your ticket here. If you already have a ticket, the booking link will be sent to you via email.

Do I Need To Take A Holiday To Participate?

In general, we suggest you take a few days of holiday during the safari, so that you can fully focus on the experience and the amazing things we will see. If your schedule is flexible, we recommend you stay a bit longer in Victoria Falls and catch up on work after the safari. However, there will be Wi-Fi available in most places. If you do need to get some work done, that's okay too - you can find some time in between activities. It is advisable not to schedule any meetings because we will be out and about a lot.

What is your cancellation policy?

If for some reason you can’t make it on the safari, you can cancel your ticket by simply sending an email to hello@nomadbase.com.

Before departure

Will I require travel insurance to participate?

Yes, all participants must obtain travel insurance that is valid in South Africa, Botswana, and Zimbabwe for the duration of the safari. It is advised that you check with your doctor to take all necessary precautions in terms of vaccinations. Because Southern Africa is a Malaria hotspot, we suggest you bring all necessary medication along on the trip. Please also wear long sleeves and apply mosquito repellant. It is of utmost importance to us to provide you a safe experience. That is why all trucks carry first-aid kits and staff are trained for emergencies as we are traveling in remote areas.

What visas do I need?

It is your responsibility to obtain all necessary visas prior to departure or make sure you can get a visa on arrival. We will be crossing two borders (South Africa to Botswana and on to Zimbabwe) and will not be able to wait for anyone who is refused entry due to a lack of visa. Please refer to governmental websites and/or embassies.

What will the weather be like?

October and November evenings get a bit chilly in Johannesburg - expect temperatures as low as 10°C during the night, and pleasant 20-25°C during the day. In Botswana on the other hand, daily high temperatures are around 31°C, rarely falling below 25°C and daily low temperatures are around 18°C.

What clothing will I need?

You can find a suggested packing list here. We recommend bringing as little as possible to be able to enjoy the safari to the fullest without having to haul around bulky pieces of luggage. Until then, remember: less is more!

Trip info

How can I return from Vic Falls?

You can either book a flight out of Zimbabwe, extend your safari trip, book a bus ticket, or hire a car. Flights and onward travel are not included.
Flights from Victoria Falls to Cape Town at the beginning of November currently cost a little over €300 and you can fly to Johannesburg  at the end of November for a little under €300.

How many people will join each truck?

The trucks have 25 seats and we will take 21 people per truck and one staff member.

Are flights included?

No, it is your responsibility to book flights (or other forms of transport) to Johannesburg and from Victoria Falls.

What will the accommodation look like?

You can choose between a twin share room and camping – both set up for two people. The choice of three-star guest houses offers all facilities from bathrooms, showers, wifi, to communal areas and in many cases a pool and even natural watering holes that attract wildlife. While the rooms are comfortable, clean and safe, we would like to remind you that we tried to make this safari affordable and amenities might not work at all times in these remote areas. The tents are set up on the premises and campers will have access to the facilities and in many cases include a little fire and/or barbeque area. While the rooms feature two separate twin beds, the tents come with sewn-in groundsheets and a separate fly sheet. Please note that sleeping bags are not provided and you will have to bring your own (we can help you get one in Johannesburg, just send us an email prior to departure).

With whom will I share my accommodation?

Each room/tent can have a setup with two separate beds/mattresses. By providing shared rooms/tents, we can get more people to join, and you can save on your ticket at the same time. You can either make a suggestion of who you would like to share your room/tent with or we will choose another lovely participant of the same sex for you. We will send out a survey two weeks prior to departure through which you can let us know your partner or we will choose one for you.

Will I be able to work during the safari?

As a nomad we do understand that you need to take care of business even on holidays.
Most lodges will have decent wifi and there will be times during the program to get some work done, but we can not guarantee full connectivity all time. We would recommend not to schedule any calls and to try and bring as little work as possible.

Do I have to worry about crime?

Crime rates in African countries, especially South Africa are much higher and it is better to be vigilant and safe than sorry. We suggest you carry a document belt under your shirt and leave any valuables that you do not need in your room. We strongly advise to be on high alert for crime and people walking or driving behind you in Johannesburg. Do not walk after dark and make sure to rather use Uber.

What kind of food can I expect during the trip?

The food will be provided by our chefs and can be adapted to your dietary needs. Please keep in mind that meals have to be planned ahead of time so it is vital that you inform us of any dietary preferences from vegan, vegetarian to gluten options or halal meals (and more). The cuisine will include European dishes, more traditional African specialties, and lots of fresh produce and fruit.

Should I Bring Cash on the Trip and If so How Much?

We advise bringing around $400-500 in cash as well as your credit card(s). Border crossings and visas can be paid in US-Dollars and it is always good to have some cash on hand in case of emergency. Should you wish to book some extra activities, most places will take card payments. Make sure you are not walking around with all your cash in the dark.
